Cockiteil bird help plz2007-11-24 17:19:09

We have a little cockiteil and have had her for a few weeks now.last night I had noticed her at the bottom of her cage. At first I thought she was stuck like one of her feet were caught on the bottom of her cage because she was in the same spot. Well she is standing next to a bowl that we also have at the bottom of her cage and she's standing with her bottom ( rear end ) positioned upward a little, maybe as if she were trying to go to the bathroom in this bowl. Well I went to put my hand closer inside the cage to see if she was able to move out of that spot at all, And was able to find out that her foot was not stuck. Well, Today I go back and she is once again in almost the same spot, but is not moving out of that spot, She has now been there for almost a couple hours.Im really worried, Could anyone maybe help me out with why it might be that she is doing that or maybe what is wrong?? Should she be okay?

Answers:

Unfortunately, the cockiteil bird takes being in season very serious. Some people will match them with another person's male bird. Friendships are made in strange ways. Usually giving the male bird owner an offspring is payment.

This sound like she is "egg bound" She is trying to lay an egg(they lay eggs even if they haven't breed) Try putting her in warm water and rubbing around her lower belly and bottom. If this doesn't work then get her to a vet right away.this could kill her! I know..I raise birds.
If she is a girl she might be trying to menstrate but maybe she is constipated. You should call the vet and ask if they have an opinion.
I had a cockitail that used to do something like this right before she layed an egg(this usually took a long time). Hopefully thats all it is, but you may want to ask a vet just in case. :)
Get your cockatiel to the vet ASAP! If she is egg bound, you don't have much time to fix the problem.
From your description it could be any thing from being egg bound to habit so the bast advice is to get her to the vet at once and let some one who is more knowledgeable than you have a look. Please do not delay ring around till you find an avian vet and then get it there as soon as possible. You don't say if she is feeding or drinking or if she is fluffed up or normal so there is not enough information to diagnose, besides most of us are not qualified to do that. Please take her for an examination now.
i think she's pregnant.. congratz, give her a box (nesting box) or a nest
sounds like she's getting ready to lay an egg.
get her a mate and a nest box i think she wants to bread
