I have recently adopted an unwanted budgie - a six year old male that I think has been on his own since he was young. Could I introduce a female friend for him or is he too used to being on his own? Is he too old to breed? Might they fight?

Answers:Do it gradually, don't put them in the same cage right away. Introduce the new bird by having her cage close by the males for a couple of days see how they respond to each other and proceed from there
agree with Jonny take it slow for the birds, although budgies tend on the most part to love a friend.
At the age of 6 the male is on the very edge of too old to breed. It would be a lot of stress to him and even more so if this was his first time. If you want to try breeding get a pair from a breeder at the right age and simply enjoy these ones company.
