That is SUCH a great book! Hee hee heee.
We went to see penguins off the coast of Antartica in Winter 2004 and it was soooo wonderful! They are just adorable, waddling around . we saw 5 different species!
They have pretty cute chicks, too . fluffy and grey!
Yes they do:
A penguin has very short legs. And he really has knees and upper-legs, but while covered with feathers this is not visible.
Research showed that waddling, although funny to look at, has good reasons. The birds would waste far more energy if they did not waddle.
Logically they have webbed feet, as an adaptation to their life in the water.
iam a penguin person i collect penguin items and no they do not have knees
Of course they DO have knees! They are just not in the same location as U might think knees would be located. They are "inside" of the bird.
Penguins are birds and have bird anatomy, so I just checked my parakeet for knees. (They're not obvious.) I did find knees, hidden within the bird's feathers; the thigh is very short. The joint that looks like a backwards knee corresponds to the human ankle. The foot is elongated, with phalanges (toes) at the end as usual.
Check this website on the avian skeleton.
