Do pet birds usually only like one person
My friend had a parakeet, not a Budgie, a Parakeet. To watch them interact was heartwarming. My friend would say, "Give me a kiss Larry" (the bird's name) and Larry would give him a kiss. Wherever he was, my friend would just call, "Hey, Larry!" and Larry would come. But Larry only liked my friend. Not his wife, not his kids, not his friends. Only my friend. Is this usually how it is with pet birds?
Answers:As a kid we had many cockatiels (I think that's how you spell it) anyway it varied from bird to bird they each had their own little personality. One bird liked everyone, the second one we had only preffered a few people and the last one we had hated everybody. I think it just depends, try asking your local pet store sometimes they are pretty knowledgeable about that kind of thing.
not necessarily.. BUT. just as your dog or cat.. they can like most people but they are particularly fond of their one person master.. that is NORMAL
it is possible my aunt had an annoying bird like that! :}
Yes. but not with "all" birds. Birds choose which person will be their 'favorite'. For me, i had a green cheeked conure, and although he 'liked' my partner.. it was 'me' that was his favorite. He would give me kisses, hang out on my shoulder (all day if he could..lol ).. if he got scared, he would quickly come to 'me' for support / protection. and if anyone came around, that he didn't know.. or that he knew i didn't like.. all bets were off, about getting bit.
Yes pet birds often like only one member of the family. Unlike dogs and cats, they often do choose one person.
Yes, I was a nanny to a family who had a parrot and he took to me for some reason. Everything I said he would repeat, whistle, blow me kisses, etc. One day while on my shoulder he threw up on me and I called the vet right away. The vet said "Congrats, he loves you and wants to be your mate. Or she is a female and loves you so much she wants to feed you." We never did find out if she was male or female. But she only loved me and when they moved and couldn't take the parrot with them they gave it to a pet shop before asking me if I wanted it. I was heart broken when I found out.
Yes. We have a budgie. Even though the Budgie is mine and I look after it, he still only likes my mum. He will sit near her and follow her everywhere
It depends.I have an african grey that's 9 months old and i had heard that they attach to just one person. But when he met my boyfriend he took to him very well and he loves us both. With others whom he doesnt know or see often he is standoffish and hides behind one of us.
no, usually African Grey Parrots tend to bond to 1 person, but parakeets, budgies and cockatiels tend to bond with more than 1 person.
