I just wanted to know do pet pigeons take dust baths like chickens? If so is dessert sand ok to use for a dust bath?
I only wanted to know this cause I might get a pigeon from a friend the next time I go to California.
No jokes or wise cracks please.
Answers:Pigeons will take dust baths sometimes. Desert sand would be good to use. You can set a small dish of sand in it's cage, but make sure that you change the sand on a regular basis.

well the pigeons that hang around my house get into a lil bowl my mom put outside her house take baths in the water. but ive seen them roll in the sand too. kinda confusing maybe its what they prefer.

I've never seen a pigeon take a dust bath and I've had them over 45 years. Pigeons are water bathers, and they LOVE their bath in almost all temperatures.
