Do you need a liscense to breed parakeets to sell to pet shops
Years ago you had to be a licensed breeder in California (I know I was one). all birds (parakeets, budgies. had to have a "closed ring" band with the breeders ID number on it or you could not legally sell the bird.)

I'll get back to this one after more investigation. I know there are bird breeder shows (I used to get my best breeding stock from registered breeders).
Okay.. every site I've researched for most States have laws governing breeding and selling birds and require Licenses to do so. Please check with your individual state for requirements. This is important if you want to sell to Pet Shops.
Nope. Unfortuately anyone can breed any animal they take into their head to exploit.
You should call around to local pet stores first. Most of them these days don't buy from local breeders, and you want to be sure you have somewhere for the babies to go. You should also talk terms, how much will you get for each baby? Will it be worth your while? Some places only offer store credit, or a fraction of what they sell the birds for. You should get it in writing.
Please do lots of research. There is so much you need to know and that can go wrong. You don't want to make tragic mistakes.

most often you dont BUT big chains already have suppliers and small stores often are not reccommended due to poorer living conditions for the birds.
