Do you think i should buy a budgie so my lovebird could have a friend

Do you think i should buy a budgie so my lovebird could have a friend2007-11-24 17:20:06

I really want to but im not sure that budgies and lovebirds like each other

Answers:

No no no. If you have a lovebird get a lovebird. Typically lovebirds don't get along with other birds, especially birds smaller than them.

they dont like each other, my in laws had a budgie in with a love bird and the poor budgie was terrified.
I would not get a budgie for your lovebird. I had a lovebird and a budgie and my poor budgie was terrified. Are you and you lovebird close? If so, you are its friend; it might not want another friend if it views you as its friend. If you want to get another bird, get a bird with the same sort of personality, like another lovebird or a parrotlet.
I would never put a Budgie in with a Lovebird, especially if the Lovebird is a Female, you could end up with a dead Budgie. In my past 20+ years of breeding birds I have found out the hard way what an aggressive Lovebird will do, I have had one Female Lovebird kill a Quaker, Sun Conure, Cockatiels, and even their own Mate. Lovebirds do not come by their name honestly.

So just be careful about what you put in with a Lovebird.

No- and if you do get another bird don't keep them in the same cage. Sometimes birds just don't get along. I had two young parrots of the same species, and they hated each other (they were never in the same cage, thank god). They should have gotten along, but they had other plans.
No. If u are thinking about putting them in the same cage, don't! Different species don't get along very well. It's kind of like big fish v. little. 2nd is that many people make the assumption that since their bird is all by itself, it is miserable. That assumption is false. After the bird lives with you for a while, it will be perfectly fine having you as it's "flock" b/c that is how it sees you. Just make sure that you give it plenty of toys, attention, and keep it healthy. I would also like to add that if u do get another bird for your lovebird, prepare it 1st for what it make expect. Try putting an empty cage next to it 4 a while and then even keep them separate until they get acquainted. I learned that in a birdtalk mag. I made the mistake of putting another bird with my parakeet and the other wasn't prepared. It ended up working out, but they fought forever!
They will probably fight not a good idea to put a Budgerigar in with a love bird
yeah go for it !! but when you find you budgie dead with no toes or legs, don't cry.
