. or as something else entirely?
I'm just curious (especially if you have a larger bird)..
Answers:Our 2 cockatoos and red lored amazon are treated like people. They whine like babies too when they don't get what they want. We have also thought of their futures should something happen to us. Believe me you are wide awake in the morning after a cockatoo crawls up under the covers and starts talking real soft or another one is bouncing up and down your leg and hitting you with his beak as he does this morning greeting. When finished, he and the fat chijuajua sit side by side on top of me. The amazon is also a best friend to the cockatoos too.
Well I have an Orange Winged Amazon and he is definitly not a pet he is one of the family and we love him as much as we love our dogs, like one of the family
I have a conure and a Tiel. I have to say the conure is more of a family member then the tiel. But the tiel has only been here a couple of months and is only 6 months old. I think she will grow on us but she is not as actave as the conure and not as cuddly.
We have 14 parrots..3 are large macaws, and we think of them as companions. We have also put them in our wills, as they will likely survive us, and be passed on to our children or grandchildren. They are wonderful, sentient creatures and hold a special place in our family.
My conure is definitely my buddy, he goes most everywhere with me except really public places!
We have a lovebird, macaw and an eclectus. The way they interact with us, the way they have peculiar moods, and some of the context of how they say and do things have definitely made them more of a companion than a pet.
Companion.
i have 6 parrots, all have different personalities, but all are my buddies. we all play and eat together. they all love the whole family. i have 1 blue and gold macaw, 1 umbrella cockatoo, 1 African Grey, 1 goffin cockatoo, and 2 Quakers.. all talk and preform tricks. they are lots of fun. we go to schools, and retirement homes to do little shows and let people see them and learn about them.
FAMILY! Of course. I have 11 birds but my Cockatoo and conure are my babies. They can be noisy and bite but when my cockatoo cuddles with me and says "I love you" and my conure randomly gives me kisses, it makes it all worth while. I haven't put them in my will (I'm only 20 so hopefully I have some time!) but they will defenitly be in there!
these birds are wild animals just like wolves and other animals the humans have decided to bring into there household until they don't do what they want then they become part of the ever growing problem of unwanted pet that we have in this country yes i do have birds one of my own and two foster they can be a pet and companion both if u have the right bird so I'm not down with people having these wonderful animals some of the larger bird do not make got pets or companion that's why most of them are looking for placement in rescue and sanctuary
