Does a male or female parakeet make a better pet2007-11-24 17:20:08

One thing I've heard is that males sing/chirp more than the females.

Answers:

I have lots of budgies and i don't think they are much different they are both just as special each other and they will pretty much be as tame as the other depending on how much time you spend with them.

Out of the male and female that i have in a cage the male chirps more but down in my aviary they chirp just as much as the other.

You can make a female chirp as long as you spend the time with them and the same with the males.

Usally females because the males are too sensitive or aggressive. However once in a while you can find a good male. One thing you need to know is when you get a parakeet you must make sure you get it when it is still a baby and that is was handfed by humans.otherwise they probably won't let you hold them :)

males can turn mean, specially towards a man in the house, some time to every body. Females seem to be easier to train to do tricks and to talk.

Both make equally great pets. The males are the only ones who can learn to talk, though.

I don't know where some of the previous answers got their information, but as a breeder I can tell you that as a single bird, a male is a much better pet. They are a lot less aggressive and a lot easier to train. Also, they can be a lot more affectionate. Even with lots of personal handling, the males are almost always the nicest.

i had a girl parakeet who was very sweet but then she flew away so we got a boy and he is so mean!
