Does anybody know for sure what it means when a female budgies cere changes color My birds is now br
Budgies change the color of their cere according to their physical condition and what age they are. Females will get a brown cere and males will have a vibrant blue or purple one, depending on what color they are and whether they're chicks. As a female approaches breeding condition the cere becomes crustier and much browner. This happens at about 6 months of age. It looks a bit like a shriveled apple piece was glued to their face :-) . It means she's ready to lay and she may go through the motions of breeding, including laying eggs in a small area of her cage. Once laying is finished the cere will return to a pale brown to light tan color. Sometimes birds will keep their shriveled look.

Dark brown in color and rough in texture means ready to breed, much like i'm doing now. I just laid my first egg (of my second clutch) yesterday. I can't wait to see how many I lay this time around.

One a baby budgie is born the cere will change different colours and once it reaches a few months old it well then change to either pink/brown or blue. If a budgies cere changes to pink or brown this means that the budgie is a female and as it gets closer to the stage where it is able to breed it will become very brown which is completey normal. If a budgies cere turns blue then it means that it is a male. Obviously since you meantioned that your budgies cere has been changing colours and is now brown then it is a young female.
