Feather plucking under wings
My best friend has had two parakeets for a few monthes now. but just recently she has been taking them out of the cage more often like everyday. she has a male and a female and the girl started doing it first them the male it is not tooo bad dut it is deffinatly feather pluking. could it be the change?
Answers:if you are absolutely certain that it is feather plucking, (ie you have see them plucking their feathers) then i would reccommend that you purchase a deterant spray. My finch used to pluck his feathers, so i can tell you that "bitter apple" works wonders http://www.petwisemarket.com/8102.html...
feather plucking can be caused by several things... in my case, it was boredom. But it could be some kind of skin irritation. Perhaps the birds are stressed by the change or environment. i would reccommend leaving them in the cage with minimal stress until the problem is solved.
I would also reccommend purchains "Prime" multivitamins, which i give to my birds, to ensure overall health and vitality. http://www.petdiscounters.com/prime-bird...
No, its probably not a change. It could be some kind of skin irritation though, that has been passed from one bird onto the other. It would be good to have a vet take a look at them. However, if the vet says it is not a skin irritation, and they seem to have nothing wrong with them, the birds are probably bored when they are in their cages, so they pluck their feathers. If that is the case, they need new toys. To help it from happening again, you should rotate toys at least once a month, or more often if they start feather-plucking again.
