Finch question~please answer
I have a cockatiel and would like to get another bird, but as a companion for my cockatiel during the school year (she hates being alone) and since my parents work she will be alone the whole day
Could buying a couple finches (or canarys) to live in a cage next to hers keep her company while im away. I don't want to get a bird that needs socialization much because i'm afraid i would play with one bird more than the other and i dont want to be unfair
So would finches keep my cockatiel from being lonely
Answers:yes as long as they are in seperate cages . go for it .
finches tend to be very atatched to other finches, have you tried a mirror in her cage? i went to michaels to get a small mirror for my bird, he loves it, or you can put a mirror on the outside, like a floor mirror so it can sit on a perch and see itself, the only problem then is, my bird has gotten VERY attatched to the mirror, it should be ok as long as you socialize your bird a lot and maybe turn the mirror around while you are with her, its just about as good as another bird in the same cage! but finches wouldn't really do a great job i immagine
Why would you bring more bird into your house to defeat the purpose of what you saying in the first place?
Your bird will be fine if you put a radio on for her and remove that mirror out of her cage. The bird will bond to that mirror and will no longer what anything to do with you. All they see it as is another bird. If it's a female, it will promote egg laying and it could egg bind her and you could possibly lose her.
