Finches would be a great choice as companion birds. She can enjoy their company from "next door" and will never be bored again. I raised Finches for 20 years. They don't require much care at all because you never take them out of the cage as they may fly into a wall or window and break their necks. With Finches a pair can be a male and female or two of the same sex. Two males are great because the males sing their little song (females don't sing) and they won't be constantly mating. It gets complicated if you have a M/F because you cannot keep 3 or 4 finches together for long. One will eventually kill the rest of them. You can safely keep 2...OR...5 or more together, just NOT 3 or 4. Sorry about the long post, but people learn too late after the fact sometimes.

I would leave out the mirror, but at least you care if your bird is happy
