Food options for budgies

Food options for budgies2007-11-24 17:07:14

I have tried every fruit and veggie I though they would eat. They don't touch anything other then their seed. Its a common problem, I know...

What fruits and or veggies have you had success with? Can you mix other bird food blends into their seed? For example...could I give them a scoop of Cockateil food as well.

Answers:

Don't overlook any option. Fresh fruit and veggies are not your only choice.

Try cooking the veggies and fruits. While it is true that cooking removes some of the vitamins, there will still be vitamins left, plus you will have the minerals and fiber intact. Some favorites at our house are canned green beans, corn and peas. You can even try steaming fresh corn or green beans for more vitamins. try serving the veggies slightly warm, while being careful to not heat them beyond a likewarm stage. Warm food is a favorite!! Even vegetable soup!

Canned fruits are liked too, especially pineapple.

If cooked veggies and fruits are not to their liking, then try dried ones!! I prefer to dry my own apples, grapes, watermelon, and orangle slices, as well as lettuce, cabbage, green peppers, hot peppers, tomatoes and more. Just get a small inexpensive dehydrator, and you will be able to easily dry healthy tasty food for your birds and even yourself! If you must , you can buy some dried items at the grocery store, although dried veggies are a bit difficult to find. Try the spice department for dried crushed hot peppers. Your bird should love them. You may be able to find them even cheaper at a "Dollar Store."
