Found a hurt hummingbird what do i do2007-11-24 17:07:15

He hit my car window and didnt fly off. he can fly a little but then falls. can u halp me.

Answers:

Do NOT take the bird to a vet - vets are for pets, and most do not have the training to care for a wild animal, especially one that needs such specialized care as a hummingbird.

Take the bird to a licensed wildlife rehabilitator. You can find one here: http://www.tc.umn.edu/~devo0028/contact.

These people have the specialized training to care for sick, injured and orphaned wild animals. They also have the state and federal licenses you need in order to keep a wild animal, even for a short time, until it is well enough to be released.

put into a cotton padded box w air holes and take to your local vet or animal shelter

Take him/her to a animal hospital and then send him/her free,animals were not meant to be kept in captivity.

Well first of all take the poor thing to the vet immediately. Then feed the humming when it gets to your house. Take good care of it until it can fly again. You can keep as a pet if you want to but I'd suggest that you let it go.

I found a little bird once and took it to the wild life hospital. I guess you could take it to a vet, but our vet told me they do not do wild animals. I took it to the wild life hospital and they took it and notified me later that it was safe and well and let back into the wild.
