How are you able to tell the gender of Peach Face Love Birds2007-11-24 17:20:23

I have 2 of my own, and I'm not sure how to tell. I hear it's impossible, unless tested in a lab, but I just want to double check. Does anyone know?

Answers:

Both sexes look exactly alike and there is only two ways to determine which is which.

1 interenal examination by a vet to look for testes or ovaries

2 DNA testing from a blood sample usually taken by pulling a feather and sending it away for analasis.

There is no way anyone can determine sex of these lovely little birds from the outside.

Usually the best way is to put a few in a flight and let them sort themselves out in to pairs.

Watch and see if one mounts the other and then you will know which is the male and which the female.

Both sexes pick up nest material and place it in between feathers on thier backs to carry it to the nest.

Males have a blue colour spot at the place where their bill starts. Females don't have this.

Hi u can try dna sexing. However, i have noticed that males tend to be stockier with a fatter tail as compared to a female.

In addition, females tend to be mroe aggressive and would often tear newspapers stuffing them into their wings

Yes it is difficult to determine the sex of peachfaces.

The feeling of the pelvic bones is the only way other than surgical or dna testing.
