How can I remove the last 4 inches of water and sludge from my Duck Pond
I have been cleaning up my duck pond, and the submersible electric pump I have used to empty it so far really doesn't like the sludge that is left, and stops flowing.
Has anyone any suggestions for removing the rest of the water and sludge before refilling it? I suspect I will just have to put poly bags on my feet, go paddling and bail it out, but if there is an easier way suggestions are welcome.
The pond is about 3 metres by 2 meters, and about 18 inches deep. It is lined with a vinyl liner, so I have to be careful not to puncture it.
Answers:an electric pump will be a vaccuum pump, and will clog like a hoover. You need an external pump that manipulates a hose, i think you can get attatchments for drills?
Ever seen a medical documentary, with a dialisis machine, or similar, a rotating disk pinches a hose, instead of a continuous vaccum, it replicates the heart pumping blood.
You might want to consider a wider apeture than normal hose, providing the drill gizmo provides for it.
Im sure ive seen them in tool/diy brochures, a pond supplier might now, if you describe it?

use a wet/dry shop vac.
A realo good shop vac but you will have to empty it very often
Gently scrub it so that the sludge is removed from the walls and dissolves in water. Then either start the pump (you might have to clean it a couple of times to clear the sludge from the filter) or bucket it out.
