Well wait a week or 2 after they are laid then get a flash light and pick one up very gently and shine the light from the bottum of it. If it is fertile it may be solid looking or very pink inside, but if not all you will see is the yolk of the egg inside . If your bird is laying eggs, fertile or not, leave the eggs in there until the female abandons them before throwing them out. I was going to throw some eggs out last week then changed my mind, now I have 4 babies on the nest of my cockatiel. Never throw eggs out until the female refuses to sit on them.

Let's start with square one. Is there a male with it and have you seen them mating?

"candleing" eggs is done at three day not two weeks. You will see red veins. Use a piece of cardboard with a small hole in it, place the egg on the hole with a bright light behind it. Don't take to long or you will broil the egg with the heat from the light. BEST yet, have patients. It takes less than a month for the eggs to hatch and the mom will be less freaked out if you don't bother her nest. Break down and spend the money on a good book on raising parrotlets.

as soon as they are laid, and as soon as the bird leaves them long enough, take them into a dark room and hold a flashlight up to the egg(touching it with the plastic on the end of the flashlight) and look to see if you can find any little things that look like little red veins. If there are veins, then replace the egg and let your birdies do their job of hatching them out. Good luck!

If you can get the eggs out from under the mother, hold them up to a lite.if you can see through the egg its a dud..if you see a dark color its a baby.if you have duds, just through them away,

they will make new ones before you know it.

First of all, do you have a bonded pair of parrotletts? I know this sound like a silly question, but I have had people ask me how they can tell if their birds' eggs are furtile, and there is no male.

If you have a bonded pair, then you can tell fairly easily if they are furtile by "candling" them.

Hold the egg up to a bright light, such as a flashlight, and look through the shell. If it looks clear, then it is not furtile. If you can see red lines(veins), then it is furtile. Be careful not to hold the egg to the light for too long, as you might literally cook it.
