How come my budgies are scared of

Today i bought my budgie's a new toy and they are terrified of it they go to the bottom of the cage and huddle together, why are they scared should i take it out or will they get used to it eventually?

birds will not die of fright from a new toy in their cage. and they NEED toys, otherwise they WILL be unhappy. they are such active intelligent creatues, that if they don't have stimulation they will get depressed and may pick their fathers or start other destructive behaviours that will kill them.

there are a few things u can try. if u just leave the toy there, they will get used to it.

and in order to prevent this from happening over and over with every new toy it is important to get them used to accepting new things in their environment. ideally, u should rotate the toys in their cage about once a month. this can either mean putting new toys in or just rearranging the ones already in there. it always amazes me how a toy can be completely ignored, but u put it in a new spot and it becomes a favourite LOL

next, remember that birds are flock animals so the old saying monkey see monkey do really does apply. if u have other birds, have them play with it. they budgies will see how much fun it is and will want it. or u can do it urself. when ur birds are out of their cage, play with the toy and make a big fuss about how much fun it is..u'll see that soon they are very interested and want ot try too.

also, if they really are scared of it and u dont want to leave it in, start by putting it beside their cage where they can see it. then gradually move it closer and then put it on the outside of their cage. when that seems ok, but it in their cage. this may be the best thing ot do, as well as playing with it and mkaing it fun. in a day or so u will have the toy in their cage.
