How come my budgies dont like to be handled2007-11-24 17:20:31

Yesterday and the day before(when i bought them)they would let me touch them and hold them now they are afraid of me and they turn crazy when i stick my hand in their cage .what happened ? what could be wrong ?

Seeing you just bought them, you should give them 1-2 weeks alone just to get them used to you and their new home. I have budgies too and when I bought it, it was REALLY scared of me. I have had him for about 8 months and now we get him out of the cage, pick him up, put our hand in the cage right up close to him and he is never bothered. He hardly ever moves one bit. So if you just put your hand in the cage everyday just a TINY bit, and MORE each day, by 8 months you should be fine. No problem.

i can only think of one valid reason. at some point when u went into the cage u scared the sh---- out of them. it will take awile to calm them down, u must b very patient and not push it or they will never b tame again. u werent wearing gloves or anything like that were u? that will have ruined them forever and dont let them fly free until u have them tame or they will never go back into the cage, not even for food.

I have had several Budgies over the years. It seems they are in some state of shock when they get transported. Basically they are stunned to silence. That is why you could handle them. After that They take a look around and say "what the heck!" Its not home! (remember they have grown up in a pet store with all their flock mates)
