I have a Parakeet wild in my backyard2007-11-24 17:22:08

okay well, couple days ago(a week i think) i found out i had a Parakeet in my backyard.and i'm worried that it will die.and my dad said if i catch it.i could keep it.anyways..it must of been a pet before.cuz it doesn't mind me around.his nest (that is above my hot tub) so does anyone know any tirck..or anything that will help me before Winter/fall comes?

Put out a cage with some seed, fruit and other bird treats in it. Hopefully he will come in. If he trusts you you shouldn't have much problem with coaxing him into a cage. I hope this helps! I once had a similar experience, when I found a bird unable to fly. We took it in, but it died the next morning. Another time, a young bird in our yard was attacked by a crow, and we came in time to catch its falling body. Once more we took it in, but it was already in a condition to severe to heal. It died peacefully, nested on a soft white towel. I advise you let it stay outdoors-mother nature created animals to have sharp instincts, they are not like us humans and can look out for themselves without help of technology and stuff like that. Just leave it be, and it'll be fine.

Start setting food out for it. You should be able to get closer and closer until you can catch it.

you are correct in trying to catch it. It probably was a pet. The advice given about placing a cage with food is excellent.
