I have a baby Parakeet About 10 weeks old He will step up but will not stay on my finger
How do I train him to stay on my finger? I feed him mullet when he does what I want him to do. If I take him in the bathroom where he has no choice, he will stay on my finger and he likes to look at himself in the mirror. As soon as I leave the room OFF he goes. I am gone at work all day. I know he is happy because he squeeks and chirps alot. What can I do to make him not be afraid of me? I love my little bird and I don't want him to be afraid of me.
Answers:I think the best thing you can do is give him time. Your bird will learn over time that you will not hurt him and he will spend more time on your finger. My bird loves to chew on my watch (she is always pulling out the pin so I'm never on time anymore) this seems to keep her attention and keep her interested. I've also found that if when let her out of her cage and go about my day, that after a while she got curious about what I was doing and came over to check it out. She sits on my keyboard, shoulder and hands to see what I'm doing. It took a long time to gain her trust and after almost two years she still does not completely trust me. Be patient and don't give up hope.
He is just checking things out, being alittlr shy. he is just a baby. let him sit on ur chest. mine love that. he will fall asleep.
Your little one is probably just curious of his surroundings. Get his wings clipped. I have an African Grey and he was the same exact way when he was that young. I'm sure he's not afraid of you, just curious of his surroundings like I said above. I hope this helps and good luck with the little one! :)
Time and patience..AND when he's on your finger, take your thumb and gently hold a few of his little toes on both feet. He'll get the idea! If he struggles too much, stop and try it again later until he's comfortable with it. Honest, it works!

why dont you just have your bird try to sit on your arm or shoulders least try it or you can get him a bird cage with a wooden stick that he can stand on . then you should try to gave him food and water or gave him a little string and just play with him by putting it front of the bird and see if he will go toward to you and see if he will follow your e string toy . maybe he wouldnt be scared of you after all.
