I have a male and a female cockatiel, but the egg did not hatch, whats up with that2007-11-24 17:22:06Answers:

the egg may not be fertile,it could have been chilled and got addled or the chick was dead in shell.

if one of the adults was either to young or not in condition this would prevent the eggs being fertile.

i would strongly suggest you buy or borrow a book on cockatiels.

Just because a bird lays and egg doesn't mean that it's fertile. Plus they may not have incubated the the egg. How long did you wait to see if it had hatched.

One of two things

A.) It wasn't fertile, just because there are a male and female doesn't make every egg fertile.

B.) The female didn't incubate it.

All birds lay eggs, it doesn't mean that there's a baby chick in there. I mean my bird laid an egg without a male bird.

Maybe the egg is unfertile and you should kindle it means put it on top of a flashlight and look to make sure if their is a baby or maybe the baby bird isn't ready to hatch

Probably not fertile. to "candle" an egg, cup it in your hands and hold a flashlight under it to see if the baby just didn't develop. if it's the first time the pair mated, this may be just a trial run <grin>

Did they have a nest? If there wasn't a nest, then it was probably not fertilized OR incubated properly.

this may be their first clutch, which is often a dud clutch. Remove eggs. They will lay another clutch. About two weeks after they re-lay, you may candle the eggs to see if they have begun to vain.
