It could be the decreased hours of sunlight during the winter months. You can put a "full spectrum" light in the chicken coop and leave it running about 4 hours after dark. This should "trick" the chickens into thinking it is laying season again. In addition, I suggest the use of specially formulated feed for chickens. Purchase some "laying pellets" at your local feedstore.

It could be a number of things. The first thing you need to make sure that their coop is clean. If it is gross, they will stop laying or not lay as much. Also, I do not know where you live, but typically when there is less day light, like during winter months, they don't lay nearly as much. You can trick the chickens by installing a light. Check with your local feed store and they will be able to lead in you in getting the right light. Good luck!

In winter (or when its under 40 at night) chickens usually slow down or stop laying. This is because the chicks wouldn't survive in this climate. However, some breeds will continue laying the whole year. *Don't worry they will start laying again in March!

Timmy, First of all, do not worry. Chickens in the winter do not lay very much at all.

My Grandpa said it has to do with the lack of sun light and cold temps. Then in aboiut late Feb or March we have eggs coming out of our ears.

They are taking a rest..trust me they will be laying like crazy closer to springtime.
