Cockatiels are not known for their talking ability though some do learn a few simple words. Only the males learn to talk, though. Many of them will never learn to talk at all. I would also add that if you have more than one and they are in the same cage they are even less likely to talk. They are bonded to each other and even if they are tame they probably don't feel as much of a need to talk to get your attention. You have to love your birds for who they are and accept that they may never talk.

Cocketiel birds will talk if you give them one or two syllable words like "hello" "pretty" etc.

First of all are you sure you have a MALE cockatiel? Because females will only tweet they hardly ever make any other noises. Only the males will be able to whistle and talk and then they learn it all on their own, just keep saying over and over the things you want the bird to say and one day he will say it back to you.

Sorry to contridict guys,but cocktails do talk,as I use to have two of them.It is very easy to train them to talk,but the bird needs to be tame enough to set on your finger.Try taking it out of cage and get in a quite room with no distractions,say only one word over and over until it learns this word.Example "PRETTY BOY",or "HELLO".keep repeating the word over and over and pretty soon your bird will talk.After learning to talk I had both of mine saying the following words
