I have parakeets that have 2 eggs but the mother parakeet wont sit on them so what should I do

Another common occurance is when the female bird will lay an egg and wait a day. She will then lay another. Sometimes she won't sit on them until day 3 or 4.

In all honesty, if you haven't done research on how to breed birds (and trust me, you NEVER know enough when a true emergency happens) then you shouldn't let them breed at all. To discourage breeding behavior, avoid putting anything in the cage that the female will use as nesting material. DO NOT give them a box, no deep dishes, nothing that she can roost in.

Another thing that will discourage breeding is to move their cage around every few days. Don't let them get too comfortable. Make sure they get 12 hours of light (as much of that being natural light as possible) and 12 hours of darkness. This will often break them out of their breeding season. Avoid foods high in fat and don't overfeed.

To keep her from constantly laying eggs and getting sick, take the eggs and freeze them. Once they have been frozen for a few hours, put them back in her nest. She may sit on them and try to care for them. This will discourage her from laying anymore. MANY problems, all of them fatal, can come from constant chronic egg laying. Make sure she has enough calcium in her die to support all the eggs her body is making.
