I have yellow collared macaw thats always throwing up help please2007-11-24 17:22:48

so like i said its a yellow collared macaw which always bobs her head into hard objects (my bones, carpet, table,etc.) and out comes her old food and then she eates it. What is causing it

She loves you! you are her baby. SHe is regurgitating food to give to you. She wants to feed you - it is a high compliment.

If she is sexually mature (probably around 3 or 4 years old) and you are handling her when she does this she might be regurgitating for you. In this case it is sexualized behavior because parrots perceive us as their mate. Regurgitated food is recognizable as food recently eaten, just minced up a little. If the food you are seeing looks partially digested and you can't tell what it is it is actual vomit and your bird needs to see an avian vet ASAP! Does she have any other symptoms? Less active, less vocal, etc. If in doubt, please take her to an avian vet. If it is just regurgitation due to sexual behavior just set her down and stop what you are doing and don't encourage it. Do not punish or yell.

I think your macaw has a crush on you. Regurgitating food is part of most parrots mating ritual and birds (parrots) will regurgitate food for their ownersif they have formed a good bond.

Dont be worried, I have a Black Mask Lovebird, and she does the same thing. She is just showing affection.

She is just regurging, thats just how they show affection!

Love! She loves you and she is sharing the most important thing she has, her food. This in birdy is " I Love You !". Strangely enough it is a form of affection, she is fine, healthy and VERY happy.
