I just found a bird but i dont know what kind it is help2007-11-24 17:22:50

Its mostly gray and small (baby) and has little yellow tipped tail

Answers:

You can get mites from picking up wild birds and all sorts of different diseases.and if it happens to be on the endangered species list you can go to jail for picking it up! You should never pick up a wild animal, you should call animal controll and leave that kind of thing to professionals that know what they are doing!PUT IT BACK WHERE YOU FOUND IT BEFORE YOU GO TO JAIL OR GET SOME SORT OF DISEASE!!

it could be a cockatiel.

or some kind of wild bird.

you need to call a wildlife/bird rehabiliter to care for it and release it back in the wild when grown/healed..they can also ID the bird..probably a sparrow it matter on your location
cedar waxwing maybe? did you call the vet?
if it is small it is either a finch or a parakeet if it is big then cocktiel
your description is vauge..all baby birds are basically gray. If it is fully feathered it has probably already fledged it's nest on it's own and is being taken care of by the adults. Most birds leave the nest BEFORE they are able to fly. In this case, put the bird back where you found it so the parents can find it and feed it. If the bird is mostly bald.skin showing then it may have fallen out of a nest.look for a nest and if you can find it, return the bird to it.if a nest cannot be located, you should get the bird to a local rehab so they can get it he proper care and diet it needs.
omgosh! really? you can go to jail? ayieee!, but anyway, put sparrow or grey baby bird or finch or whatever these people are telling you and see if it pops up in yahoo image search, or go to wikipedia and see if it is endangered, if it is, call animal control, if you don't know the number look it up in the yellow book or online, hurry!
Please see my website: http://www.starlingrescueandcare.braveho. for help in identifying the baby. You will also find diet, feeding instructions, emergency care, baby bird care and more on the site. The site is targeted at starlings and sparrows but the diet and care information will apply to almost all song birds (except the pigeon or dove) being they are fed a mainly insectivore diet by the parents for the first few weeks of life.

Hope this helps!

Can you contact me and send me a picture of it? I may be able to help you identify it.

It may be a sparrow. They are precious tiny birds. They often live in bushes. I love sparrows. There is a song : His eye is on the sparrow and I know He watches me. It is a beautiful song. I love to feed little sparrows when I find them. They are special to God, as are we.

Blessings,

Cathy
