A Male canary. Make absolutely sure that its a male cos females make a noise thats really annoying.

Or get a budgie you can train to talk and do tricks. They are funny.

Canaries are good pet songbirds. They're small, so you don't need a giant cage. They happen to be cute/pretty. They are cheerful, non-aggressive birds. And they have beautiful songs and trills. Not all canaries sing in exactly the same style, either. But all are very nice!

There are also certain types of finches that supposedly have very pretty songs, but I don't know any from personal experience.

Try Zebra Finches - they are small birds that are relatively quiet but have a very unique and pretty song. They do better in twos.

if your gonna buy a small bird,,buy a parrakeet..not only will he sing..but you can teach him to talk..mine talks non stop..hes talking now as im writing.ive had him for 4 years..and he statrted talking about 2-3 months old.my last parakeet lived for 13 years..so.get a parrakeet

Canaries are a pretty yellow bird that is quite small. They are rather expensive though.

My advice is to get a pair. One alone is too sad. Two birds are not more trouble for you than one.

Depends, are you wanting a talking bird that sings with words or by chirping? For a chirping bird, canaries are wonderful little pets with a pretty song. Cockateils can be taught to whistle a pretty tune and can be taught to speak a few words. Now a Quaker Parrot is top dog for me (course I live with one), it is a small parrot that sings with words, they whistle pretty songs that you teach them, they can have the vocabulary of a three year old child and are very simple and inexpensive to maintain.
