My favourite bird is getting beaten up by one of the girl birds. I want to give her away to my best friend's daughter as she's too loud to keep in an apartment and they have a large house with a basement so noise won't be a problem. The problem is -I've been told three birds will cause fights as two will pair up and beat up the odd one out-is this true? Also, we like the two blue ones most and they happen to be boys. So I'm wondering-do I HAVE to give away the other male bird with that female? What would happen if I don't or if I give away the two female birds and leave the two male birds behind?

Heck, I have three budgies and they get along fine. All acquired at different times. 2 girls, 1 boy. They even do that thing where they regurgitate food from their crops and feed each other (kinda sweet to watch once you get used to the idea of it)..

YES, three is a BAD number!! two will certainly beat up the other and if a single female is left with two boys, OH BOY!! POOR GIRL!! they will torture her for the right to be her man!! If they ARE NOT paired up, meaning there is no LOVE MATCHES, you can keep just the boys, but if two birds are clearly best buddies, your in for trouble.

The birds may form a clique and leave 1 bird out. Be careful as the odd man out could get picked on.

Yes. Females are usually more aggressive and may attack an unwanted male. Also do not add another female budgie to the cage as two female budgies are likely to fight each other, whereas conflicts between two males is rare.

Do you want to breed with them or are they just pets,,?

If pet birds leave the2 cocks with the 1 hen, If breeding split the hens and cocks into breeding pairs the hen your having problems with should take to the other * bird
