Is buying canary seed for a budgie wrong2007-11-24 17:24:05

i kinda figured it looked tastier than the budgie seed and the budgie will never know the difference.

Answers:

Thats the least of your worries.

You need to be feeding your budgie vegies and fruit breads boiled egg pasta , rice etc pellets are better than seed , but to make the change , give half seed half pellets and gradually cut down the seed.

corn, spinach, broccoli, apple, pear grapes, watermelon, mung beans, multigrain breads, etc.

A complete seed diet will lead to all sorts of problems, really push the fruits grain and vegies

Also allow your budgie to chew on natural branches, and greenary, this will releive boredom and give him enviromental enrichment.

Best of luck

you should only feed budgie's budgie seed
Not as wrong as buying a pork chop for a Rabbi.
seed has little nutritional value for birds as a french fry does for humans. They are fatty and unheathly when fed as a base diet and you are giving your parakeet even LESS than that because you aren't even offering him a decent seed product. Canny seed is mostly grass seeds and millet. So that is ALL your bird is getting to eat. That's not good. You need to get them on either a healthy seed diet if at the very least with fruits and vegetables, rices and beans or get them on pellets with the fresh veggies and fruits..etc.
