Is it alright to take the lovebirds out the cage the same time as the budgies2007-11-24 17:24:08

What i do is take them out the cage separate is this the best way?

It depends on the natue of your lovebirds. Lovebirds are bigger, stronger and tend to be bossier than budgies. If your are going to let your budgie out with your lovebirds you will have to be very carefull as lovebirds have been known to kill budgies as they can sometimes be territorial. You will have to keep a very close watch on how they react being near each other and it is probably a good idea to introduce them to each other slowly as this may reduce their fighting when they are together. I wouldn't ever put them in an avairy together though as the lovebirds will kill the budgies eggs and babies so that they can lay in that nest box. So just be extremely careful whilst experimenting with them.

Both budgies and lovebirds tend to be very dominant little birds. They most likely would not hang out together at all, and in many cases would end up having little tiffs. They could learn to get along, but they still most likely would only tolerate each other not hang out and be buddies.

Yes, keep them separate. The lovebirds are a lot stronger (and meaner) than your budgie, and if they decided to attack the budgie, he could be seriously injured or killed.

That is like asking if blacks and whites get along. It is all on their individual personalities. I would monitor them together and make your decision based on that.

Personally, my little lovebird tends to like to hang out with the bigger parrots than be bothered by the parakeets. He has never shown aggression towards them but i wouldn't but it past him!
