Is it good or bad to have 2 male singing canaries in the same room to see its other2007-11-24 17:24:09

Will they sing or not?I've heard that male canaries stop sing when they see another male.Is that true?

No, it is the opposite!. They try to out-sing each other.

This is how exhibition song birds are encouraged to sing.

Never keep two males in the same cage, they will fight, and they are quite aggressive.

They won't sing if they are too close together. Ideally, they should be in a cool (not cold or drafty) but cool room. they tend to not sing if it's to warm. Across the room from each other is sufficient. They don't have to see eachother but seeing eachother, providing there is a descent distance between them, won't stop them from singing.

If they are too close together only the dominant male will sing. I would suggest keeping them seperate if you want them both to sing

I agree with Sue except for the part about two males fighting if they are in the same cage. I have two males and three females in the same cage right now and they all get along fine. I think the aggression is as individual as every other living thing. This has been my experience.
