The past 3 days(including today) my rooster keeps trying to attack me What gives2007-11-24 17:16:21

he jumps at me and tries to kick, spur, lounge, peck anything he can. He fluffs his feathers up and drags one wing too. He has never acted this way and now i feel liek i have to be armed to go to the coop. he even does this when i bring him food and h20.

Can birds sense a womans hormons? or is this bird just nuts?? WHy has he started doing this?

He is most likely now a little over a year old.He has also most recently became the top rooster in your flock.There for he will take on anything he sees as a rival.This includes you.He is doing his best to show dominance towards you.The solution to this is rather easy.You have to show him you are the boss and top dog.Until you do he will continue to flog and attempt to spar with you.The best thing you can do is chase him down grab him by his wattles and drag his little butt all over the pen.Hold him down to the ground for a couple minutes then drag him a little more.After releasing him proceed to chase him around a little longer.In the event he is a stubborn rooster every time he attempts to flog you repeat this action.Also do not enter the pen in a defensive position enter offensively and take the fight directly to him.Single him out immediately and chase him down.This prevents him from having the first strike advantage.Remember chickens are very social birds with a strict pecking order.Some times you have to prove you are top bird.Backing away from him will only encourage him to flog and attack more.I now have over 17 roosters all at one point have made their bid at top bird.None of which succeeded
