..where have they come from and why; and do they live in any other parts of the UK?
Answers:They are ring necked parakeets which escaped from a Sutton aviary in the late 70's. They cluster in selected trees and make an awful din. Awwk! Awwwk!

didnt know there was this many but a few years ago (early nineties i believe) large numbers escaped from a breeding aviary and i take it they just took up residence so t speak
In the 1940 s when Humprey Bogart filmed the Africa Queen it was staged in that area and a lot of the birds escaped and formed a collony that is unique to sw london
They are feral birds which have escaped from somewhere but the actual source is unknown.
don't know how long been about but know what you're talking about. have seen them in non-such park flying about in groups. fantastic isn't it. makes a change from pigeons??
