This is a question for people out their that have Cockatiels
My daughter just got one and its 2 months old. So far its a sweet bird. I was rubbing its neck and it started making little throaty tweeting sounds. when id stop he would look up at me and then put his head against my shirt and close his eyes. as i continued doing this, the sounds got louder. Is this sounds of " i enjoy what you are doing"? Ive never had a cockatiel before so i dont know what to expect. Any info would be appreciated. Thankyou.
Answers:Hi there. This is bonding behavior and is a great thing. Diet is very important: a good pellet food, limit seeds to 10% to avoid fatty liver disease, fresh fruits and veggies 10-20% no avocados or chocolate which is harmful to birds and many other animals. If your sweet bird does not approve of your touching, he will withdraw or peck. It sounds like he has found a wonderful family. Your bird has a lot of personality. have a great week.
yes that's exactly what it is... almost like a cat purring. I have a lovebird that does the same thing. Sometimes I don't even have to be petting him, he'll just make that sound sitting on my shoulder or on his swing. He often makes it when he's falling asleep too. It's a sound that they are content.
they are sweet birds. we used to have one and she loved my husband so much she would shriek like a crazy bird whenever he came home until he would talk and cradle her. encourage the best most intimate relationship you can : )
