Does anyone else find this wonderful site a little addictive?

Answers:

At first it is. I think we all have something in us that really wants to reach out and help people. It's a very safe forum and people can either listen to what you have to say or not. So it's safe for the people asking the question.

I generally only answer questions in the bird section. It's what I know and what I'm interested in. It gets a tad frustrating when at least twice weekly someone asks which came first, the chicken or the egg.

And I get kind of frustrated when people ask questions seeming to really want a good answer and then go off into "Never-Neverland" by picking some bonehead best answer that is incorrect.

I have seen some truely wonderful questions that I loved answering. Your question about parrot intelligence was a joy to answer, as well as richard who asked a rather lofty question about what birds gain by us keeping them. Jessie posed a great question about "birds having a sense of their own captivity". That was fun to answer because those are questions you have to think about.

It bothers me when people who already have birds are asking questions they should already know the answer to. While I have pretty high standards for my own birds' care, I realize this isn't going to happen in most households so I'm just shooting for people supplying a good varied diet, clean water and a clean cage.

So yes, it is rather addictive at first, but once you realize you can't change the world with a bunch of well thought out and intricate answers, you tend to relax.
