Timid Green Cheek
My bird is quite skittish...I bought her from a breeder...hand raised. She is just as sweet as she can be but she is terrified of toys that I put in her cage...once she gets used to it which takes months...she then destroys it and then we have to start all over. Also we've had her 4 years at the same house and she still flies frantically to me when I walk away from her. She is healthy and loves people. Also, even if I put the toy outside of the cage for weeks and then put it into the cage she still is scared. Is there I anything I can do for my Kiwi?? I love her so much adn she is on my shoulder right now scared to death of the keys on the keyboard as I press them...Thanks!!
Answers:Some birds have a large need for toys and others do not. I would not force toys on your green cheek. The birds I have right now, (which includes a green cheek) don't really go for any more new toys, and they don't like their old toys messed with either.
It's different with every bird. I wouldn't push any toys at your bird.
Try holding the toy in your hand and go up to the cage when she is on top of her cage and talk in a real soft play full voice to her and reassure her that the toy is OK .When ever you do something with her reassure her in a playful voice and she will learn to trust what ever you are giving her or doing with her.
