And we almost crused the eggs trying to find them so to keep people and horses from accidently crushing the eggs we took 2 plastic posts in concret and placed them by the nest. Is this alright? Will the mother abandon the eggs 'cause we moved the posts next to the eggs?
Answers:That sounds like a good idea to me. It shouldn't take the birds long to realize that the posts are no threat, and then they'll take care of the eggs just like they normally would. Even if they do abandon the nest, I still think you did the right thing 'cause it sounds like they were in imminent danger anyway.
I don't think it will.I have seen geese sit on a nest outside bookstores before, so I wouldn't think two posts would spook the bird...so long as no one touches the eggs, and it is left alone!
It really depends on the individual quail, that may upset some birds, others won't care.
Just keep an eye on her and see what happens.
I guess you discovered that motherhood is a strong instinct with birds. You can even move nests to a nearby place and the mom usually returns. Birds don't have a sense of smell and cannot pick up on the human scent. Congratulations on your new arrivals!
