Too many chicks
I bought some chicks online at a hatchery. My problem is, I had to order 15 (hatchery rule) and I can only keep 6 in our city. I tried selling the extras on Eggbid, but I had no takers. These are a laying breed, so I'd rather not try them for dinner. Does anyone know where I can sell them (I'm in Southern Indiana)?
Answers:Being many breeds are dual purpose they are just fine to eat. Also the processing time occurs well before they actually begin to lay.Though I can understand it can be difficult to butcher birds you raised. As others suggested your local paper, flea markets and feed stores are your best bet for places to advertise.Understandably you would like to recoup your money invested. You may want to check and see if there is a local farm that you could give the birds to,in the event you cannot sell them and you still do not want to butcher the excess.
Advertise in your local paper. I'm sure someone will want them. Good luck getting rid of them. If you were here in WV my dad would buy them from you. He has 50+ now.
You could also try the flea market. That would work here in Alabama.
try a feed store, sometimes they'll take them. or you could try giving them to your neighbours. leave them on the front step with a little bow that says "happy late easter" lol.
Our Animal Control takes them, they have a farm out in the back of everyone's unwanted chickens. They adopt them out and use the eggs!!
You could try a farm. My mom used to take in chickens all the time. We had a 10 acrea farm with lots of chickens running around. I'm sure that a large farm would be happy to take them off your hands.
Well if theres a local feed store nearby call and ask if you can bring them up there to sell. They should let you because feed stores usually order them to sell to there customers. Its what i do. Also, you cant put a sign out in front of your house. Thats all i can think of.
