Two untamed lovebirds
If I separate them once a day& spend individual time with each of them, can that help tame them? Will it loosen their bond w/ eachother, so I can eventually separate them for good?
Answers:Separate them into two cages, but place the cages next to eachother. Also, they should have thier wings clipped, if they don't have flight and they are in their own cages they should become friendlier if you take them out every day.
Also, my two lovebirds get together once a day and take a bath or have a snack, just so they can spend time together.
i didn't quite understrand your question. i think that the jist of it was how to tame my birds. if i understand correctly, this is how i tame my parakeets.
it may help to separate them. If you do, keep the cages in the same room.
you have to be extremely gentle.
1 try to put your hand in the cage, but don't touch him. if he flies away, try again in about 15 min. repeat until he doesn't fly away.
2 the next day, or week, when he is comfy with you hand in the cage, start stretching it around and opening and closing it.
3 after he is comfortable with 2, probably about a day, and doesn't fly away, hold a small perch in your hand and move it towards him. if he flies away, try again in a few min.
4 after he is comfortable with that, move the perch rite above his feet, and say step up, wile gently pushing up on his abdomen. he should step up hold him there a few min. then put him back on his solid perch and leave him alone. this shows him that this thing really isn't so bad, and that it is safe to sit on.
