The first two are correct in so far as they go. If the bird is actually a racing pigeon (and if it's band letters are IF, then go to the IF site at: http://www.ifpigeon.com/ and look for their band list. If you're in Canada and the bird's band begins with CU, check out: http://www.canadianracingpigeonunion.com.

If however the bird is not a racing pigeon, then it could be almost any banded breed and your best bet would be to check with both the National Pigeon Asso in the U.S. at http://www.npausa.com or the Canadian Fancy Pigeon club at: http://www.pigeonfanciers.ca/

Release the pidgeon it will return to it's home. It is trained.

If the band on it begins with an AU, then go to http://www.pigeon.org and check the band list there. It will give you an address for the club secretary (and possibly a phone number as well)

Check the band to see if there are any initials on it. For instance, AU. This is the American Union Homing/Racing Pigeon Association. There should be numbers following the letters. You can contact the Association that it came from this way.

I once had a pigeon from the American Union, and the band on it's leg is how I knew where it was from.
