We found a two baby sparrows, how do we care for them2007-11-24 17:16:30

I found a two baby sparrows that were in a nest that fell out of a tree. We tried to put the nest back but it kept falling out again. We have tried feeding the mushed up dog food and they are doing well with that. As of right now we are just keeping them in their nest in a cage from a past pet. We have a blanket over them but not all the way, they still can breath. They are not fledglings! They seem to be about 2 weeks they have feathers, although are still develpoing, and seemed to leave the nest in about a week or two. Is there anything else we should do?

Answers:

Call the humane society in your area-they will either take the birds and finish raising them or give you a contact number for the Audubon society in your area and there is always someone who raises birds and can give the care they need---you have to watch they don't get pneumonia-- and it's easy for them to get food or liquid down into their lungs and die.so please call the authorities, maybe even a local zoo?

take them to the closest shelter near you where they are properly trained to care for animals. baby birds are not easy to take care of at all.
handled 200 in 20 years dont put in nest, cats!

put in high box 60 watt bulb 2-3 feet above, feed w/toothpick ground beef, they grow fast, they will become attached so will you,be care ful with water thier is enough in food they can drown if too much water,a 3cc syringe is best, when fully featherd no heat needed as they get older the beak will appear, when the wings get strong realease, give exercise near end they will fly around let them balance on finger
