Please do not listen to the people that say to take the egg out! They do not know what they are talking about.
If you take the egg out the mother will continue to ay eggs, thinking she is replacing one stolen by preditors. Continued laying leads to calcuim being leached from the bones and health problems, and possible egg binding.
She will lay an egg every other day until she is satisfied and then sit on the clutch. She is realize on her OWN that the eggs are not fertile and stop sitting. Only then should the eggs be removed.
Most parakeets that you get from pet stores are sterile. They say you should hold it up to the light (very carefully) and see if there is anything in there within a couple of days. But, if they are not laying on the egg, then chances are it's just going to die anyway. I only left mine in a couple days.
MMM. Omlettes. I kidd.. I would take it out right away, your bird will be pissed
They need an enclosure to lay more eggs and will hatch them.
until the egg haches, if it does not hach, and the egg is roten, the mother will know and reject the egg. remember, mother knows best
If you only have one bird then that means that the egg is not fertilized so just take it out of the cage.
DO NO JUST TAKE IT OUT OF THE CAGE!
Let her have her time with it then eventually she will reject it.
If you just take it away she will lay another egg and it will strip all of the calcium from her body and she eventually will die.
If you have one parakeet obviously you will not have a fertilized egg. Take it out right away.
