Weeping Eye on my Cockatiel
Weeping Eye on my Cockatiel2007-11-24 17:16:33
My cockatiel / weero has a weeping eye. All the feathers surrounding his eye are wet and its red. They other eye looks glassy but its not as bad as the other.
Apart from that he is acting normal, eating and drinking.
Does anyone know what could be causing this?
Answers:it sounds like it has an infection like conjunctivitis, if left untreated it could turn into a respiratory disease, best thing to do is go to the vet asap, if he starts fluffing and looking like he's cold keep him warm with a heat pack or something that will keep his temp up. if left untreated he will die i had it happen she fought for six months until it got worse.
I had a cockatiel with a simular eye problem three years ago. I took her to a good bird vet who then gave me some antibiotic ointment to put on the eye. Apparently she had some type of infections in her eye. The ointment cleared the infection up after a few days.
This could be a eye infection or even a upper respiratory infection. If your bird's eyes look cloudy or have a discharge coming from them, he may be affected by a respiratory, nervous, or muscular disorder. You should rush to the vet as soon as possible as your bird needs immediate treatment.
