What Type Of Parrot Should I Purchase2007-11-24 17:17:35

Ive asked similar questions, but now Im in a new situation.

There's a parrot expo coming to my town in three weeks, and I have six grand to spend on a bird & supplies. HOWEVER, which alot of research, I still have no clue what type of parrot..or parrots [I can purchase up to three]...I should purchase. I want a parrot, not a budgie...cockatiel...or quaker. I really don't like Amazons, or Senegals. I was thinking of some sort of Cockatoo, or large Macaw. I don't care about noise, cost, special needs, ect. The only thing that I ask is for a species that is known for it's good personality, one that can cuddle, and is bigger than a Cockatiel. Any suggestions? Ive been wanting a Macaw or Umbrella Cockatoo for years, but Im afriad of literally getting my finger or hand bitten off. I wouldnt care if i got bruised, but I dont want to loose a finger! I have a cockatiel and she has a lot of personality. She is a joker, a smart *** and at many times a sweetheart. Yes she is small, but she cannot take a finger off. She even cuddles with me. When I am having a bad day she flies to my rescue, lands on my shoulder and gives me a million kisses and says over and over, "You're a pretty bird. I love you pretty bird. You are such a pretty bird." She also does tricks and talks. Just wanted to point out that maybe you should not over look the cockatiel.

You don't want a Quaker? I've worked with birds for years, have 17 of my own, and can say hands down that my Quaker is the sweetest bird I've ever met. Sure he's territorial as all get out, but away from his cage he lets anyone hold him, pet him, roll him on his back.. and he's 7 years old, not a tolerant little baby.
