What Whistles or Words does your Cockatiel know2007-11-24 17:26:40

I posted about curiousity of teaching cockatiels new whistles/words with cds specific for repetition to play while not at home.

What whistles/words did it seem quicker/easier for your cockatiel to pick up? Which ones were ones you tried, but they never picked up?

I know each bird like people of course are unique and none of this info will determine what my birds can and can't do. I am just anxious to hear other cockatiel owners experiences =)

I have a cockatiel named "Bird". I found him 14 years ago in my back yard in a tree (when I was 9 years old). He was not tamed, but very thirsty, and that's why he came to me. We taught him to whistle the Andy Griffith theme song. He also whistles, "whoot whoo". He says "pretty bird", but he says it pretty fast so it's hard to understand. He also makes noises that don't mean anything. they are things he learned from us (for example, he copies the sound I make when rolling my R's).

Our male cockatiel can do a wolf whistle, and tries to say "Pretty bird". He will also try to laugh with us - kind of "hee hee hee", you know? We just taught him these things - never considered the audio CD method.

A very bad version of 'these r a few of my favourite things' lol. An old lady passed it on to us and she taught it.it also says 'hello' and 'twit to whoooooooo'

My bird, Frenchie, whistles when he is happy. Since I can't really whistle, I had my friend whistle to him and he has learned what she whistled. Now every so often he whistles and he sounds like my friend whistling.

My tiel is about 7 months old and has not learned anything yet. She knows to holler and I'll come add a little food to her bowl and she tries to let me know when she is ready for bed but I'm hard headed and she don't have me taught that yet. The conure has taught me a lot. I know when he is going to poop so I take him back to his cage.. I know when he wants me to come get him. He has learned to say hello, morning, night night. and a few other things. Lot smarter bird then the tiel. But again he is almost two years old and the tiel may start talking soon I hope.
