What are your parakeets favorite treats2007-11-24 17:16:57

Well I'm trying to find foods that my birds, Romeo and Juliet would like. (I know, those names are so generic-like. I didn't figure out that eeeeveryone named their pets that until afterwards. Could I rename them? Would that be hard for them?) Wow. Like five questions in one. What a deal. But anyways, my parakeets don't seem to like any of the fruits and vegetables that I put in their cage, but I know they need to have the nutrients and vitamins etc that they would get from eating them. All they seem to eat is their seed, millet spray, and water. Is that unhealthy? Everyone says I should just put the fruits and veggies in the cage every day and they'll try them, so I'm doing that. What kinds of foods do yours like? (if you have parakeets) and what would be healthiest?

My parakeet didn't like healthy snacks either. The only thing she would sometimes eat was cucumbers. I think she liked to pick at the seeds in the center (at least it's something!). Keep trying! Eventually they may try a bite and decide they like it. Good luck!

It's fine that your parakeet likes certain kinds of food. Mine is like that too. My parakeet liked toasted bread when I gave him it. He's also CRAZY for millet(millet seeds are like candy to birds). Try putting new foods to his beak like what you would do with millet.

My parakeets love broccoli.They also love Corn Flakes (unfrosted) just plain, but it is fattening so just use it as a treat.
