Sounds like a bluebird! Give a search on the internet and have a look at a picture. Consider making or buying a bluebird house for your backyard.

Only one I can think of at the moment is a rainbow lorikeet, but I doubt you are talking about that anyway... sorry.

If the feathers are bright blue and bright red with bright yellow and green on the back, you have a male Painted Bunting.

The female Painted Bunting is a beautiful green and some pale yellow. They come to my feeder that I put finch seed in. You might try throwing some finch seed out on the ground and see if they come to that.

Now the Western Bluebird also has blue and red, but the red is not brilliant. I attached links to pictures of both birds for your convenience.
