The egg obviously because after many yeares of natural selection, out of an egg came out the bird. Its just not possible the other way around. So even if the egg layer was a sub-reptail/sub-bird creature, the egg it laid produced the bird. Thus the egg came first in which developed and hatched the bird.
Thats why scientist believe that reptiles and birds are so closely related because of how they hatch.
